Gear Review: Cheeky Fishing All-Day Fly Line

Overview

Of your fly-fishing gear, I would argue that the fly line is a strong second if not the most important part of your fly-fishing setup. If it has too much memory it doesn’t shoot well, it can cause your cast to pile up at the end. If the coating isn’t good quality and it tears or cracks, then your floating line becomes a sinking line. All of this can mess up your day on the water and deter new fly fishermen from continuing in the sport.

I currently have my 7wt lined with All-Day Floating Fly Line in 8wt. Overlining is something you may want to do if you’re casting in tight quarters. I have been able to cast accurately even with only a short section of the head. It has made urban fishing in my area much easier. The All-Day Sink Tip Fly Line saw its first action in a nearby lake. With its 6” per second sink rate I was able to fish streamers at all sections of the water column. Both are smooth-casting lines. Check out the specs below.

Specs

All-Day Floating Fly Line.

Pros and Cons

Pros:

·         Very affordable. The all-day floating line is $60 compared to Scientific Angler Amplitude at $100

·         Low stretch fly line.

·         The spool is plastic. I have more fly lines than I do reels to put it on. It is nice to have a nice quality spool that can be used to store other lines.

·         Low memory in the fly line from the spool.

Con:

·         The largest line weight available is an 8wt.

Conclusion

Overall, the Cheeky Fishing All-Day fly line is of good quality.  It has less memory than other fly lines I have used in the same price range. It shoots smoothly.  Its packaging can be reused for storage of other fly lines, reducing waste.  My only complaint is its limited in-line weight. I would like to see All-Day Fly Line up to a 12wt.  If you are replacing your fly line in the 3wt-8wt. Then check out Cheeky Fishing’s All-Day Floating and Sink Tip Fly Line
